One of the biggest jackpots in online slots history was paid out recently when a player going by the initials A.D. hit a €3.8 million ($5.27m) prize. The big win occurred on the popular progressive slots game Mega Moolah, and it was won on just a $0.50 bet. Going further, the $0.50 bet was made with free casino money that the player had received as a bonus. Now the progressive jackpot will be reset back to its original starting point of €1 million.

Since being rolled out by Microgaming in 2006, Mega Moolah has been one of the most popular and generous online slots games in the casino industry. In this six-year span, Mega Moolah's progressive jackpot has been won a whopping 10 times by players - making all of these people millionaires in the process.

The largest Mega Moolah payment ever made was a €6 million jackpot, which ranks as one of the top online casino payouts ever. Interestingly enough though, this prize isn't quite near the biggest online slots jackpot of all-time, which was won at the end of last month.

The stage for the largest online slots jackpot was set as a 20-year-old university student from Hordaland, Norway returned home from a night out with his friends. The anonymous winner then logged onto his Betsson Casino account to see that he'd won some free online slots spins from sports bets.

Although rarely a slots player, the young man spun the reels and struck gold in the form of an €11.7 million ($15.8m) jackpot. Following his record-€11.7 million win, the student couldn't even sleep that night as he told Betsson, "It hasn’t really sunk in yet. I couldn’t sleep until 6:00am due to the shock! I woke up at 7:00 again. It was just impossible to sleep, and I am shaking and sweating."

It's a safe bet to say that after receiving his money, the Norwegian jackpot winner is sleeping a little better.
